Warm-up, Cool-down & Recovery
Warm-up is not just stretching but may include stretching (although the benefits of this may be less than previously thought) as may both cool-down and recovery.
We always advise clients to warm up properly ahead of exercise, this is not only because cold muscles are much more likely to tear, but also because it prepares all your tissues, internal organs and control mechanisms for more intense exercise which reduces the risk of injury and improves performance.
Cool-down allows your body to slowly adapt to the reduction in demand and is kinder to your body systems whilst also providing an excellent opportunity to stretch whilst your tissues are warm and more pliable.
Recovery may take the form of stretching, sports massage, recovery drinks, compression and ice baths and our Physiotherapists with their sports experience are well placed to provide up to date, evidence-based advice and or program design.
