Millie Owton – Screening

Prize Winner Millie Heads for the Top

2014 Under 10 British Elite Trampoline Champion Millie Owton is aiming high in her ambitions, with National and International success in her sights.

Millie spends at least 8 hours every week on the trampoline and adds core fitness training as well as other competitive sports to her training regime. In order to maximise her undoubted potential it is vital for Millie to listen to her coaches, eat properly and take expert medical advice.

So Millie counted herself particularly lucky when she won a professional sports screening session at the recent Surrey Sports Awards.

Her prize involved screening by James Avery, Managing Director of Bevan Wilson Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinics. James has worked with elite athletes including the world’s top tennis players, footballers and Golfers and sees the development of young athletes as an important part of his role.

‘’We have had a clinic at Charterhouse School for over thirteen years and in that time we have advised and treated many exceptional young athletes. An injury at a young age can set performance back by years and that is why we offer the screening programme, it identifies problems before they occur and gives the player an opportunity to make changes before injury strikes.’’

Millie appreciated the screening session and wrote to thank James ‘’ I really enjoyed the tests and found it useful to know which areas of my body that I need to work harder on to improve my strength and fitness to help with my trampolining. I think the session is a great idea for anyone in sport to find out how they can improve and prevent future injuries.’’
